Outrageous Expectations Poem by Linda Coker

Outrageous Expectations

A knight in dripping armor
Came forth to rescue me,
Dismounted from his seahorse,
Limped out of the foaming sea.

His armor was quite rusted,
He didn’t have a sword.
With helmet visor busted,
He looked unkempt and bored.

Was this my handsome future?
Where was the noble steed?
How could this one protect me
And furnish every need?

My hopefulness receded
Like waves along the shore,
My childhood dream eroded
Until it was no more.
