We are in the same small boat. You are in the front, and I’m in the back. We are facing in the same direction.
You are holding a big pair of paddles and paddling very hard to go ahead in the angry thunder storm and crazy rain….in the sea. I am also holding a pair of paddles but small ones.
I see your back. I see your hands…They are bleeding. I know you are working hard to get through it. To get there the destination you are desperate.
But, in the same time, I am also paddling hard with the small paddles and hope the boat will move faster and faster. Unfortunately, I’m too small and the paddles are not big enough to affect the boat’s velocity. That’s why, maybe, you never feel who is sitting there behind you, keeping on watching you and helping you….All the time.
I see you’re tired, and out of breath sometimes. I see your blood in your hands. That makes me also work harder and harder. And now..my hands are also bleeding. They hurt so bad, but still I’m still paddling and hoping one day, before I fall into the sea, you will turn back and see who is there behind you, helping you..All the time.
It is perhaps one of loveliest 'free verses' that I have ever read. Everything in this poem is vivid and relevant. Great work. 10++
