Our Love's Dreamlike Dawn Poem by Portia Burton

Our Love's Dreamlike Dawn

Lost in each other, we sat in silence
In the soothing shade of the great oak tree,
While in the west the sun seemed to be reluctant
To go down saying 'good bye' to you and me.

All the while I was looking only at your face,
How your loving eyes sparkled with joy,
How your silent lips opened out in smile,
And how it became difficult for us to play coy.

Then you very gently took my hand,
And pressing it to your lips, you softly said:
'You know well, yet I say, I love you, '
Oh, to hear those words how much I had prayed!

Though the setting sun had now finally gone,
I was experiencing our love's dreamlike dawn!
