Opportunity Poem by Andrus Cassian

Opportunity

So it arises again, the new venture syndrome
the tightness in the chest fits the mood
searching for something to do with these shaky hands
while the mouth becomes dry without a hence of water in sight
Baseless, faceless sits these knees ready to buckle and break
at least in a painted scene
It's anxiety, only acute but it's anxiety
well fear and nervousness most likely
yet who can be rational in this status
Spelling it out only makes the panic set in more
making the heartbeat speed but nothing to life threatening
though it's the waiting
the waiting for your name to be called
waiting for something to happen to change your life for the better
As opportunities go, it's the first day you meet it
that makes you the most nervous
for you don't know what's on the other side
It's a brand new chapter
It could spell happiness or disaster
and it's the unknown setting in to make you hyperventilate
until you remember one simple thing
one ultimate life lesson no one really bothers to say out loud
it's just always implied:
Breathe in, breathe out
Never forget to breathe
This isn't the worst, this isn't the end
There will be a ton of new beginnings, this feeling will never fade
but dig your two feet in the ground, be your own flag
shout boldly and proud with confidence
that you got this, you will make this
You will succeed
This is your opportunity to seize
This is your opportunity to seize
You are a winner, you've got this
no doubt you've got this
...I got this….
At least I hope so
