Only In My Dreams Poem by Dahlia Fujiwara

Only In My Dreams

when heavy lids with lashes thick
give way to languid slumber
and i steal away to that special place
where the world is what i make it
for a dream is your own desires manifested
into a world of your own making
and in my dreams i paint with such sweet fury of things surreal, imagined or perhaps stored in the banks of puerile reminiscings
and everything is possible there in my land of dreams
but sometimes that land can be bittersweet
for my memories haunt and lurk and trick my heart into thinking
that you are still with me and that i might hold you close
that we can run through sands exotic, swim in oceans
azure and mystic and climb majestic mountains
do all the things we ever dared to dream
have all the adventures we never did
and the dream land is so very real that when i open
my heart fully to such fantastic memories that overtake me
that i feel better then ever i could in waking life
but with the rise of the sun the veil is lifted
and again i rise from such sweet delusion
and the veil is cruelly lifted
and i know that only in my dream land
can we be together
