Only Dreaming Poem by Sean Tyacke

Only Dreaming

I had a vision.
She came to me in the quiet of the night,
And ever elusive danced among my dreams.
Urging pursuit.
Tempting, and taunting.
With her smile so sweetly flaunting.

I ran.
Through breathless restless dreams I ran
To chase my phantom lover,
As she skipped and danced and smiled
‘twixt one dream and another.

On and on we ran,
On and on.
Thorough darkening fields where diamonds in their thousands grew,
When silver soaked, the grass sparkled with a summer dew.

On and on we ran,
On and on.
Over cliffs where silent seas first kissed expectant land,
And mermaids fished for men on the foaming silver sand.

On and on we ran,
On and on.
Through a moonlit fern strewn forest glade,
Where silver shafts of speckled light among the shadows played.

On and on we ran,
On and on…..

‘til suddenly she stopped, and stood her ground.
And smiling.
Beckoning.
Turned around, with open arms to embrace
Her dashing hero from his chase.

But like the moonlights silver shaft,
Her form held no substance mortals grasp.
And as the interrupted beam,
So vanished my dream…
