One Saturday Poem by jho argote

One Saturday

I entered the school gates
T'was different
This once, I was free.
No bell t warn me 'bout the time
No friends to pull me away
Just me.
I stopped.
The school grounds were green,
As always.
But for once it wasn't swarmed.
No children
Running
Skipping
Laughing their hearts out,
Tempting me to join in.
Maybe I've grown.
Nothing interests me anymore.
Except a small tree
The trunk was no taller than me
With branches, like fingers spread out.
Come, it said,
Climb me.
I did.
I sat on one of its branches.
Feet dangling
Four feet from the ground
I felt the wind
A gentle breeze
It smelt of fresh leaves
Below me
Its roots
Like snakes
Slithering away, taking different routes.
The leaves
Like ghosts
Cast shadows.
Somehow,
Patches of sunlight pass,
Like hope.
Then it rained.
Soaked,
I stayed.
I still haven't grown.
