One Destined To Fail Poem by Francis Duggan

One Destined To Fail

Life for him has been a struggle since he first saw light of day
And he has followed in his late dad's footsteps of him 'twould be fair to say
His life journey so far has led him inside the jail-house gate
And in his life for him so far nothing to celebrate.

Only in his twenty second year at the gateway to his prime
He must spend four more years in prison as his price for violent crime
His mum eloped with another man he was homeless at fifteen
And nothing of the easy life he can say he has seen.

For to lead a successful life he does not stand much of a chance
Things for him might have been different save for the ill luck of circumstance
Few climb the hill of success from hungry no hope street
Where to keep one's self from prison is seen as an amazing feat.

He will spend the new year behind bars locked in his prison cell
One in his early twenties of successes he cannot tell
For robbery with a firearm he is serving time in jail
Due to circumstance of his birth he is one destined to fail.
