One Act Away Poem by Jillian L'Amour

One Act Away

One act away
From becoming another race
Some of us have already been
Some may never be
But we will always be a part
Of eternity.

Of all the people that I am
I'm still so purely me
People cling to what they can't control
As if they'd grown every tree
One ancestor grew another
Others strove to marry
Some they fought for things
Thus were early buried
Who fought for freedom
Fought for truth
For right of way
And though they knew yet knew not
I am here today

One step forward, two steps back
Surviving a million violent attacks
One for all, not all for nought
A small victory was brought
We earned the right to walk in truth
To learn what is 'til death from youth

When you wish upon a star
Ask not for a brand new car
Ask for peace,
For another day,
To live and light the way
A zillion miles away from here
strange unknown life lives but do not fear
for they, like us
look for love,
reveling at the sight
of the sky above
