On The Shelf Poem by Lisa Ann Smallwood

On The Shelf

I'm just a little teddy bear with golden locks of curly hair
I have my place in this crazy world living on a shelf
I'm kept company by a dog a barbie and an elf.

Our Shelf is in a cottage that sits beside the sea
sometimes it does get lonely when no one plays with me.

Barbie is the favorite, all perfect in their eyes.
What they don't know about Barbie is her meanness and her lies.
All taken by her beauty, her shallowness is hid
they do not know her like I do or the things she did.

Dog is in the running but second he will stay
they grow bored of him quite quickly
and he gets put away

The elf is thought so handsome and gets moved upon the mantle
for Christmas time hes special and he sits beside the candle.

For me the lonely teddy bear I sit alone most nights
I used to be a special one until love grew tired
He held me in his arms at night and kept me in his room.
but as time passed he grew up and I was not so cool.

So now I live upon this shelf and stare out at the sea..
the daughter love the Barbie, and the son loves the dog,
the mom loves the elf...
but as for me I'm left alone and old bear on this shelf.
