On Seeing A Photograph Of Marilyn Poem by Francis Duggan

On Seeing A Photograph Of Marilyn

It's been said with the Kennedys Robert and John she had affairs
But judge for yourself if that be truth or lies
Though many claim there has to be some fire
If smoke keep billowing upwards towards the skies.

And though she died back in the sixties she still lives
As a sex goddess of immortal fame
But what use now to poor old Norma Jean
If she lives on as a remembered name.

She was unhappy and lived an unhappy life
And she died in a mysterious sort of way
And whilst some will tell you she took her own life
Five out of ten will not rule out foul play.

Some claim that as an actress she was far from great
And that there were others far greater than she
But those who love the late Marilyn Monroe
Claim such assumptions born of jealousy.

When I was young she was a superstar
And still her legend living on today
Some claim she died from a drug overdose
Whilst many still will not rule out foul play.

A photo of her on a bar room wall
Her fame has outlived her mortality
And despite success she lived an unhappy life
And death brought an end to her great misery.
