On Being Free Poem by Sandra Martyres

On Being Free

I just want to be free
Free as a bird flying high
To distant lands across the sky

Today I feel caged
Each time I look around
The four walls of my apartment

The books, the music
The pots and pans are all stark
Reminders of being tied down

I want to leave them behind
And experience true freedom
Before earth finally swallows me
