On An Old Wedding Photograph Poem by Francis Duggan

On An Old Wedding Photograph

Rating: 5.0

That old black and white photograph bring back memories 'twas taken almost forty years ago
A wedding group all bright and happy faces and many of those people I did know
The baby in the group now close to forty on looking back those years just seemed to fly
'Twas taken when wildflowers bloomed in the meadows if not in May or June then in July.

Many in the photo now are in their long sleep and memories of them are all that remain
Yet I can visualize and time it stand still and I can see them in the flesh again
Their spirits live they often smile and greet me and though their bones with the departed now may lay
It does not seem that long ago since last I met them in fact it only seems like yesterday.

In that old photograph the years have stood still it takes me back to when I was a boy
In my early teens thirteen, fourteen or fifteen a memory for to treasure and enjoy
Those people are alive and well and with me till my own end they will stay
And I have vivid memories of the old home though from the old home I live far away.

That old black and white photograph stirred up memories and brought familiar faces back to me
Whoever said the past is gone forever with such a statement I could not agree
Our bones may have aged and we may now look older and father time has left us looking gray
But the men and women who inspired us in our childhood are still our inspirations of today.
