Omniscience Poem by Max Dahlquist

Omniscience

I told her that I know everything.

I don’t, but I know some things,
like two and two isn’t five
and the earth is being held together by gluons,
which are little bits of God,
left around to keep everything in place
while He took a vacation into the Horsehead Nebula,
with everyone who was smart enough not to stay here.

I think I learned this by staring at the stars
until they burned pinholes into my brain
and caused everything to leak out onto my pillow,
in such a way that I wake up without realizing
that I died in my sleep.
