Ogaino Road Poem by Suleman Opio

Ogaino Road

OGAINO ROAD
I stumbled upon Ogaino road
Not long after that day
When the sky broke
And breathed in me a new lease of despair
On one end, I heard the cadence of a choir
The keyboard occasionally overlapping the hymn.
A dog, in a distance, barked
In a spirited exchange of vocals with the choral;
Its range running from despair to rage.
On the other end, people in groups strolled
Some plodded; others pranced,
Their voices rising and falling.
A drunken man sauntered, tripped and fell
A sudden quietness engulfed the air
The stillness was soon replaced by laughter
From beneath, the man threw a curse
Up above, the clouds gathered;
Around me, the air thickened
The sky broke- a drizzle pattered
against a roof
And then against roofs.
It beat a gentle rhythm on my head
And then the road fell quiet
Its silence was imposing; it was
poignant
A reminder of my fate
How did I know I would be here?

The road of life can feel empty, but if you find a fork in that road and take the right one you can have a rich and full life. A great poem.
