Ode To Carol

Ode to Carol
I did spy a beauty named - Carol Peach,
On holiday in Barbados - on a white sandy beach,
(yes, Peach really was her surname - she was not to blame,)
Far away - under a cloudless sky,
Oh Me! - Oh My! - Says I.
It's four in the afternoon,
What chat up line - can I employ?
It came to me very soon,
A nice cuppa tea - we could enjoy.

We spoke of this - that and the others,
Of friends and family - my son and our daughters,
I lived in Herts - Carol in Dorset - miles apart,
But, hey, she had won my heart.
We talked and talked,
A Dalmatian - I had owned - and walked,
A lot about dogs - Airedales and Labradoodles,
Carol about a teenage daughter - and a poodle.

At home I had a young kitten,
Carol, I could see was smitten,
Time, I think to caboodle,
And hopefully canoodle.
That was in January at the wind surf bar,
in October we played host - to our friends - from near and afar,
We sealed our nuptials - at the altar - with a kiss,
And have lived our lives - in married bliss.

It is now - thirty-four years later - I am eighty - old and grey,
I look in the mirror - and see - the decay,
Old man's body - young at heart,
I hope Carol - can give my metabolism - a jump start.
What awaits us - we do not know,
We are both determined to - put on a good show,
Carol is sure I'll go first,
I am determined to last and last.

How she has put up with me - all the years,
I don't know - others had left - causing me tears,
Happily married third time round,
many years left before they put us in the ground.
