Oak Creek Canyon Grandeur Poem by Della Hodgson James

Oak Creek Canyon Grandeur

Oh! That I were only a writer
And could tell of wonders seen,
Oh! If I were an artist
And could paint them on a screen.
Yet I never envy writers
But exalt them with my praise,
For the books of many authors
Richly bless their lonely days.

I could never envy artists
For I all their visions see,
The way my mind reacts to beauty
Tis all in a day to me.

Yet, no writer however great
Or an artist with an adapt hand,
Could ever catch half the beauty
That God creates, oer the land.

Natural arts, just hold me spellbound
And I cherish each rich hue, I
Explore for all the rare wild flowers
That enchant each day anew.

I can only gaze with wonder
Drink in all the marvelous sights,
Breathe the fragrant breath of springtime
From some craig or lofty height.

Stamp their grandeurs on my life's screen
Store them with my memory chart,
Treasures of a life's collection
Sacred to a dreamer's heart.
