Not Me Poem by Victoria Nicolle

Not Me

If only I said what I’d really do
My heart would be pounding
I would only have to say ‘hug’ once
Because I would never let you go
I’d wrap you in my arms
And shield you as best I could
From every evil in the world
Anything that could get to you
But I’m not the one to do that
I’m not the one your heart desires
I am a mere friend
That has more feelings for you
Than you could ever realize
But I know
I have to watch from elsewhere
From the sidelines
of the game called love
As she keeps your broken heart
Captured and locked away
As her own personal toy
Oh how I wish to free that beautiful heart
Before it is pulverized
And turned to nothing but stone and ash
I just wish you could see
How much you mean to me
And how much I want to make you feel wanted
But I’m not the one
