Not Forever? Poem by Tiffani Williams

Not Forever?

you told me things get better
and i wouldn't feel this way forever

at first i was shocked
and betrayed
when i realized
some of the worse lies
are told with the best of intentions

i've almost grown numb
to the constant pang
of knowing i'll never get the me back
i once so easily had
that me,
that always saw the bright-side
of the night
isn't coming back.

the lonely dull pang of all the yesterdays
the scent of solitude
the company of regret,
all as fresh as the day you left
hand, unknowingly, in hand with
the me that was always together

my dried out, shriveled, barely beating heart
supplies my being
with too much to die
and not enough to be alive.

i swear my breathing never got back on track,
in fact, i dont think i ever got my breath back.
you were never the most accurate.

but you were never so wrong.
