Nobody Owns The Rain Poem by Ruth Walters

Nobody Owns The Rain

Rating: 5.0

They take our childhoods!
We watch the sandcastles
at our feet,
quickly, slip away.

Then they steal our youth,
grab it as we sleepwalk
towards debt
in undervalued, underpaid work.

When we're all used up,
frazzled from the strains
that life imposes,
our bodies all warn out,

our minds, screwed up,
they take away our safety nets,
delay our pensions,
neglect our health.

They would claim they own
the rain if we let them.
Well, let me tell you,
nobody, damn well, owns the rain!

Great truth inside. Good poetic work
