No More, Please! Poem by Kathleen Reguindin

No More, Please!

Man, the highest form of creature
Born with the capacity to love and nurture
In God's likeness and image created.
But the actions of many show only hatred
My eyes look and I sadly see
In so many places, man's cruelty.
Guns, knives and bombs they carry
Fellow men they kill wantonly
Women and children alike they slaughter.
Eradicating innocent smiles and laughter.

Immeasurable grief, such tragedy.
My heart aches, I silently weep
What vicious demons in a man's soul lie deep
To drive him to take away another life?
The woman raped is someone's mother, daughter, sister or wife
The man they murder is someone's father, brother or husband
And the children, oh the children... what have they done
Their lives cut short, from us gone.

From time immemorial, countless lives have been lost
Caims of evangelization and spreading religion
All in the name of God or misguided convictions
They preach love, and yet kill... what a shameless contradiction!
And to the present time it continues...
Entire nations filled with raging anger and fury.
Waging war on one another
No respect for lives, there are no brothers.

When will it all end, when will the violence cease?
From the top of my lungs, I want to scream PLEASE!
STOP the hostility among humanity.
Please put down your arms, please stop the killing.
For once in mankind's history, let's show harmony and unity.
