Nit Picking Poem by Andy Brookes

Nit Picking

I watched apes grooming picking nit and eating
delicate in their actions, gentle simian fingers probe and comb
finding morsels like words full juicy gobbling nutritious
hair separated by purple breath across the concentrated
facial frown.

listen to crack between teeth luscious as ripe melons
though not vegetarian.
water drips off rocks somewhere.
hot sun, lemon bright and sharp, blinks down.

trees shade this age old ritual this nit picking,
picking of nits
