Nights Don't Let Go Poem by Hasan Maruf

Nights Don't Let Go

Tangled strands of moon-kissed locks
Gleam in dawn's sleepy disarray
As silent thoughts of last night's sorrows
Scream the memories of their pain
Relentless rhythm of hips in motion
Directionless feet retracing weary steps
Shadows filled with empty pockets
Hold nothing solid since you left
Hope burns thin beneath the glare
Of scorching midday sun
When nights bring dreams of you and me
Though we are fading since you've gone
Yet here I pace, your willing captive
Wearing ruts into this floor
Reveling in nights of sweet surrender
Knowing by morning you won't want me anymore
Coming to trembling grips slowly
With sharp edged clarity
Aching dreams have long disguised truth
Images of you and me
Do not equal we
