Night Breeze Poem by bob barci

Night Breeze

In the dark of night
I awaken to a midnight sweat
leftover from a warm, humid, day.
Cool shower doesn’t seem to help any
as it leaves me unable to seem to dry off.
A towel wipes me,
but I am still dripping in sweat.
Through the darkened house,
I make my way to the front door.
Opening and looking out,
I can see a midnight breeze
making its way through the leaves of trees.
Standing out on the porch
with only my towel and a dim street light, one-half block away,
the midnight breeze in exhilarating -
just what was needed to cool me off.
From the backyard
a cat cries as if in pain.
Down off the porch I go to investigate.
In the process,
the cat runs off
and my towel slips away.
Standing in the yard
wrapped only in the cool midnight breeze -
the lack of clothing
is the last thing on my mind.
The cooling breeze is refreshing
and I just want more of it.
I make my way around the yard
detached from my nakedness.
Halfway down the driveway,
heading towards the front of the house,
I suddenly snap to and realize
I probably shouldn’t be doing this.
Cautiously,
I make my way back inside
with towel in hand.
As I lie upon my bed,
cool breeze from open window
eases me into a gentle sleep.
