Newflame 2 Poem by Matt Ransom

Newflame 2

Rating: 5.0

I try to stay professional
I say nothing about it
although everyone has lost their faces
and put on yours

But she notices my discomfort
or the recognition with which I greet the waitress
and the desk clerk and the driver

'You're seeing someone', says she
and the sound is lost in the roar of my longing
or the plane overhead
filled with passengers to be jealous of.

'Yes, ' says he
I see her everywhere
She's become like a color
or a letter of the alphabet

It's worse when I close my eyes
And I'm grateful that the agony is bearable
than if I'd ever touched her

I sigh every time I read this poem. I know what it is like to have every thought consumed by another person. The longing feelings are so intense and hard to contain on the inside, that you feel they must be showing on the outside, despite your hardest efforts to conceal them. I love this poem almost as much as I love you.

I like this side of you Mr. Ransom. More vulnerable. You really communicated your feelings in this one. Keep up the good work. I look foward to more from you.

I really like when you say 'she has become like a color or a letter of the alphabet'. Beautiful and poignant. Any woman would love to be the subject of that poem.
