Never To Reappear Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Never To Reappear

Handel's Chorus quietly echoed
beyond the hills and the trees,
in the month of May
two thousand and one
at the start of a chilling disease.
A virus killed six million animals
across Britain's vales and leas.

Prayers were sent to the heavens,
gentle folk fought back the tears
from the month of May
two thousand and one
the 'unforgettable' years...
this must never happen again
to sheep and cattle so dear.
