My Phantom Guide Poem by Ramona Thompson

My Phantom Guide

Written for my phantom muse, whoever he or she may be. I long to hear from and know who you truly are.

Who is this mystery?
Is it a he or is it a she?
Who is it in my head and heart that brings all my best words together?
To create masterpieces of bliss and outrage
Just a made up made fantasy in my head?
Or is there truly something more going on here?
Will I ever know?
Do one of you out there reading this know more than you're letting on?

Desperate for the answer to this puzzle
Consuming me
I'd do anything
Almost anything to know
As the desire unfolds
Inside of me
This strange plot thickens
And somehow I feel pressed
Almost as if possessed
I have to write this
I have no choice but to ask
To beg even

Behind the glow of a computer screen
I know somewhere my phantom guide is watching
Waiting
Reading
Leaving me
Breathless with the anticipation of his or her next poetic vist

A new dawn has arrived
And I wonder
I question
Will this be the day?
The day I have not so secretly longer and lusted for
The moment when at last I see behind the mask
Behind the mask of my phantom guide
