My Mum & My Inspiration - A True Story

Here’s a story about a princess, who has the biggest heart
It’s a 60 year old tale, so I should really make a start

An autumnal day in August, in nineteen forty eight
A princess escaped form heaven, when peter was guarding the gate
A fair maiden with eyes so soulful, so beautiful and wide
She found her way to a man called Harry and Ruby was his bride

A travesty lie before her, it seemed she had the short straw
Her mother screaming “leave me alone”, behind a closed locked door
She protected only one sibling, she cherished her eldest son
Damaging her children for years, that can never be undone

Her mother went off and left her and took her brother Ed
Broken to her gently, she was told they both were dead
Her life already a tragedy, when she heard she sobbed and cried
It wasn’t until many years later she’d discover her father lied

In a world full of violence, hatred, loathing, did anyone give two hoots?
With high hopes and great expectation, she went to find her roots
She ran away to Scotland, and found a mother that didn’t care
This maiden born into a life that surely wasn’t fair

She discovered love in Scotland, when she found her brother Ed
He introduced her to a man called Jim, and soon after they were wed
Full of content, glee and happiness, she poured out the love inside
Her first Alison, then three others, who gave her so much pride

Her marriage was a disaster, right from the very start
To discover from the beginning, he didn’t fill her heart
Her husband, not a provider, he wasn’t a fitting dad
She decided to divorce him, the children weren’t so sad

Love came and finally found her, by the devils in disguise
In the form of vicious men, who had evil weasel eyes
Unlike her mother Ruby, she wouldn’t turn her back
She guarded her children, protected them, although she’d get a whack

We could continue with this dreadful story, but enough has already been said
But her heart was broken many times, her soul was left for dead
Our princess never gave up hope, as she has an amazing heart
She picks herself up, brushes off, and makes a brand new start

A big heart so warm and beautiful, not full of spite and regret
But memories of a life of torture, is a life you can’t forget
This amazing woman, her name is Pat, and a her tale should be told
A story of a woman that’s brave, courageous and so bold

She has brought joy and happiness in my life
With all that’s said and done
It’s on this very special day
I’m proud to say she’s my mum
