My Mother Poem by Patricia Denise Newman

My Mother

Rating: 5.0

My Mother was a special gem
not one you'd wear in a diadem
nor one you'd display in a solitaire
but a gem, none the less who knew how to care

She was well-loved by all whom she knew
her home was a welcoming home to the few
of family and friends who came for a while
all still remember her care and her smile

She'd feed and she'd cosset and help where she could
and everyone felt that she understood
when a kind word was needed or a comforting hug
she listened and offered a place warm and snug

I miss my dear Mother with each passing day
I miss her smile and own special way
of making me feel that I could achieve
all that I wanted when I had to leave

I hope in the future that someone will say
'Your just like your Mother', it would make my day
to know that I share in some intangible way
the creed that she lived by, to care come what may
