My Memorial Day Poem by Kaiin AC1

My Memorial Day

I stood at dawn, parade rest. The place where My fallen comrades rest. Ever knowing I should have been here too with them. I'm honored to have served with Pride and Dignity. I stand tall and salute them. ILL never stop being a soldier even though IM not healthy. ILL stand guard. ILL fight the fight for freedom whether foreign or domestic.

Though I may not wear the uniform any longer, I wear My badge of honor every day until I die. Those that know Me..know My thousand yard stare. I watch ever vigilant, I keep My eyes open. I sit with My back to the wall, watching the entry.

We have pride in what we do. In our work, in our play, in our lives. We show what we are so there is no question. In the time of emergency. I don't run from it, I run to it to see if I can help. This is how I do.

A tear runs down My weathered cheek. I smile and remember that smirk and the good times and bad.

Don't ever forget Freedom isn't free.
