My Man Poem by Mara Manzano

My Man

It was Tuesday night and I still remember well
I can recount the things we said and happily, I dwell
Because on that fateful night, things had turned
To something amazing in which today I yearn.

We started as friends, we were both broken
I talked about him and suddenly, I became open
You talked about her and how she gives you pain
You know you don’t deserve it, they were all insane

Little by little the feelings grew
Into something that fully erased the blue
I had doubts, I had questions that I need to ponder
Then you surprised me with “The Book of Answers”

Now, every morning when I wake up
I smile at the thought that I don’t want this to stop
Then I look at my phone and see your name
I smile again ‘cause I know, everything has changed

You are the best, this I tell you
In the simplest words, I want you to know what is true
That on that day, that won’t ever repeat again
I will forever cherish that you became my man.
