My Love Poem by Paul Mkupa Gondwe

My Love

I look at you and I cry
My Love, you have been raped
and abused but no one
hears your cries

For so long I have watched them
kill you slowly all in the name
of development and living lavishly

You were beautiful before,
your skin was all so green covered
with roses and your rivers and lakes
flowed freely with a scent of life

Your breath was a relief, your sight
a delight
oh My Love, what happened to you?

I looked away for just a moment
and I find you have been torn apart,
left with scars that will never heal

What am I to do?
Let me whisk you away to a land
where it will be just you and I

Let's make sweet love and give
birth to more Kilimanjaros
Oh My Love, how I wish it were that easy

I will fight for you my love,
even if it's the last thing I do,
I will make sure you are not abused any more
