My Life Poem by Ronald Speight

My Life

Wisdom comes with experience
Not with age
It just happens to be that the older
You are the more you’ve done

So what can you tell a young man
Like myself that he knows nothing
When you know nothing of me
Nothing of my life my experience

At nineteen I carry heavy loads
That I wish no one else has to
Build up over long hard years past
And anything else that comes my way

At nineteen my hair is white wise
To the world and its trickery
Knowledgeable to pain
Which is far past my years

I live a foreseeable future
My only hope in this future of mine
Is to leave the past behind me
To release my burdens

But keep the wisdom which protected
Me from the cold hard world
That made sure I didn’t get hurt to much
And the knowledge
Which gives me power
