My Heart Poem by Debrah Amos

My Heart

Rating: 3.5

I know my senses
And I truly trust my senses.
My eyes, for instance,
Will direct and show me the way
Even where there is darkness
My ears, my skin, my nose, perhaps,
Have also been faithful to me all this while,
But when it comes to matters of love—
My senses are useless!
In fact, they are misleading
Oh love!
Love has rendered my senses useless
No wonder I have eyes but I can’t see
(Love is blind indeed)
No wonder I have ears but I can’t hear
(Love is deaf and dumb indeed)
Oh young man, never trust your sense
On your quest to finding
The queen of your heart
Love matters is all about heart matters
And so my heart is the functional sense
The only sense that will guide me to my love
