My Daydreams Leave Me Blind Poem by Tim Vallie

All of these things inside my head, all the worlds inside my mind
All of the living and the dead, but to this world I’m almost blind
All of the creatures born anew, all of the monsters of the night
All of these things I wish were true, remove my truth from my own sight

Why can’t I live inside my head, where the fantastical has life
Why must I walk among the dead, in a world of pain and strife
Why is mind so far afield, with the world before my eyes
Why do I dream of sword and shield, why do I wish to live those lives

All of these dreams that steal my mind, will they slowly take control?
All of these worlds that live inside, can my creations steal my soul?

I do not wish to live alone, in the worlds inside my head
I do not want a golden throne, if it means reality is dead

I want my brain to focus on the task that is at hand
But instead it wants to wander through a nonexistent land

All of these things inside my head, all of these worlds inside my mind
All of these monsters I have fed, to my reality leave me blind

Why is my mind so far afield, leaving my absent from the earth
Why to my monsters must I yield, why to the creatures whom I gave birth

All of the darkness and the light that exists within my mind
All of the monsters and the knights, why do my daydreams leave me blind
