Mr Kaplan, Tear Down This Wall! Poem by grace mariner

Mr Kaplan, Tear Down This Wall!

Let me come in she asked,
knowing the answer before it came.
And he, with his awkward charm,
adds mortar to brick to seal any chinks that may
allow such horrors, such normalcy, in.
My safe haven he said.
Free from the soft skinned demon who wants to enter.
Are all of us the same?
Are all of you?
I have worn that armor with its temptations
inside of me already.
Give me something fragile
and I will cradle it with such a gentle hand,
even in my own awkwardness.
Do you know me?
I think you do.
I am transparent as a whisper.
I will breach that wall, storm your gates,
find the chink in that fragile armor.
No concertina wire, no bared fangs, no dragons fire
can stop this gentle quest.
You battle an invisible devil.
Created from your own pain,
you refuse to part his company...
this devil you know.
It is easier for you to see the absurd than to
accept the obvious.
But I, like most demons come in pleasing
shapes and colors and with a tenacious will.
Don't let me go.
You know me, I won't return.
