Mother Ocean Poem by Jeff Siegel

Mother Ocean

What have you brought me?
What language will you speak?
What century do you come from?
My anima of blue mistique.

For so long I have heard your call.
In the quietness of a fancy,
In the whispers of a laden pall,
Or laughing waters sunlit and dancy,

The centurions that guard you as you lie,
The mysteries that you entomb,
The hatred of men that went awry,
Are forever silent,
Deep within your womb.

Yet we are the same, you and I,
Despite my flesh and bone.
For the tears of brine
Within my eyes,
Are borne from you,
And you alone.

So now I stand
Marred in sand
And smile at thoughts upon your waters,
And regress the days
In silent waves
At the brashness of your sons,
And the innocence of you daughters.

An ephemeral sun
Whose time is now done
Dies in pastel
While painting your shore.

Turning a day without themes
Into a night without dreams,
And contenting all earthbound
For another day more.
