Mother Poem by Dennis Okyere Brako

Mother

Rating: 5.0

From seed formation the warfare was on
A fetus developing to be born
On a journey of nine long treacherous moons
Inside the protective womb of motherhood

You nourished us through your milk,
Nurtured, we were clothed in golden silk
When we took our first step you cheered
Till we scaled the scary tree when you begged

Your chides were sign post above the earth
God-woven love web we retreat for rebirth
You gathered us like the hen gather her chicks
As the lioness over her cubs, you sheltered us

God has given the world a blessing
How well we see till the edge of our lessons
An inseparable bond tied in marble
A precious gift, love-carved and infallible

I listened in grief the story of a mother
As she recounted, she wailed to another
Of a dear son torn by propaganda
Engrossed in a war of hopeless agenda

Son was bloodily ripped from top to down
And for him there was no burial ground
That was his reward for rallying to the order
His last dying word was "mother"!

Young, captured, and raised on violence
He marched on in murderous silence
The merciless muzzle tore him like butter
Discarded in tears, he cried for "mother"

There's a magical bond gifted in motherhood
And we shall not fail to say thank you
With gratitude in our hearts we adore you, mother!
From your seed of love that goes beyond many borders
