Mortal Universe Poem by Skyler Oliver

Mortal Universe

You were the brightest stellar
The prettiest ever in the infinite universe,
As you grew older
You gradually become dimmer
And dimmer,
Until there was nothing left of you
To shine away the remnants
Of your mortal life,

Even the brightest, prettiest thing in the universe,
Shall be gone
Even the strongest diamonds
And the lightest dandelion,
Everything is perishable
In this ephemeral, futile world.
