Monsters Poem by Kadelynn Roberson

Monsters

Heartache behind fakes smiles
We both play our parts well
Picture perfect, you and I
This facade can fool the whole world
A few more fake laughs, giggles, handshakes, and hugs
Then we can take off these masks
And go back to what we are

We grow claws and fangs
Scales, tails, and things
We are monsters
Both fighting to stay on top
And we'll just drag ourselves further
Into the deep
I see in you what you see in me
We are monsters

At first this was a fairytale
But they all start off that way
We put ourselves through Hell
In hope of brighter days
I honestly tried to changed
But bad habits are always the hardest to break
and once I really saw your face I understood we were the same
We both put in chaos
And got back destruction
We can pretend all we want but that still won't change us

We grow claws and fangs
Scales, tails, and things
We are monsters
Both fighting to stay on top
And we'll just drag ourselves further
Into the deep
I see in you what you see in me
We are monsters

We spit fire at each others name
We rip through and devour innocence wholeheartedly
Only the twisted of heart can stand this game
You complement the darker side of me

No matter how we tear, claw, and drag each other down
We're all we got
We're all we got
We bleed and sweat to put these broken parts back together
We're meant for each other
We're meant for each other
And we might be something less than human
But at least I can look in your eyes and see my reflection
I can see my reflection

We may grow claws and fangs
Scales, tails, and things
We are monsters
We both fought for what we got
And when we hit the bottom
We'll both be there holding each other in the deep
I see in you what you see in me
We are monsters
