Mocking For Sense?

The possible sound-rhyming
of 'sens' with 'men's'
might be why we
don't drop the 'e' off 'sense'.

No such trouble posed 'selfe';
nor, from what I see
in a poem from the late 17th century,
did 'wee' and 'bee',
'designe', 'finde', 'charme',
'appeare', 'againe', and 'hee'.

Sense set in some time after;
unless the poet I'm reading
(and he very well could have been)
was looking for laughter.

The possible sound rhyming is beautifully narrated in this excellent poem. This poem is truly very informative one...10
