Missing You Poem by Martin Rini

Missing You

I start missing you the moment you leave my room.
I think: “She’ll be back.”
But the moments turn to hours and the hours turn to days.
And you’re not here.

The time together is too short.
The time apart is too long.
The bitter-sweet moments together
Are followed by the pain of being gone too soon and for too long.

Is this the pain of lovers?
To begin to miss someone
Even before they leave?
To live in fear that the last hello
Must lead to the next goodbye?

That loving you in person
Includes missing you when you’re not here.

That my senses that feasted on your loveliness, seeing and hearing and smelling and tasting and touching you in your presence
Are now replaced by only a memory of knowing and feeling and experiencing you
In your absence.

I am missing you.
