The first time that I saw you
You passed me by that day
I knew I wanted to talk to you
But I didn’t know what to say
So I turned around and walked a step;
Or two, I still forget
But I remember you my love
The one I never met
I could have seized the moment
“Carpe Diem, ” they would say
Walk on over, say “Hello”
Then my mind just went astray
I woulda, coulda, shoulda
Now I have this one regret
I missed my one and only chance
For the one I never met
You lay in the empty space of
My lonely queen size bed
You care for our imaginary children
Tuck them in and keep them fed
You give me all the love I need
I take all that I can get
My love, there’s still this emptiness
You’re the one I never met
I’d love to love the one I dream of
I’m forever in your debt
You wake me with your morning lips
From the dreams that I forget
And if I had a second chance
I know I won’t regret
The first time that I talked to you
The You I never met
I hope you got another chance. My co-worker did the same thing with me. I didn’t know he wanted to ask me out until his friend/co-worker told me. That friend is now my husband, and we have an 11-year-old son.
Beautiful train of thoughts, well articulated and nicely penned from the heart. Definitely a good love poem. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON. ➕9
