Misery In The City Poem by RIC BASTASA

Misery In The City

we arrived
together last
night

tired we went
to sleep
airtight in our
dreams

one wakes up
goes to the comfort room
hazily
back to sleep trying
to cope up and
remember

what was it? what
was it all about?
why? why? insistent
upon an existential
query

but sleep is nil and
the love of forgetting
wins this time

you are more agile
and flexible
adapted to whatever
happens
knows your ins and outs
and the escape window
and the extinguishers

i am left behind
helpless
without flesh and bone
feeling like
cotton and feathers and
air...
