Mirrors Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Mirrors

Rating: 0.5

I tell the life story
Of the lines in your face,
I have a good memory
Of the years with each gaze.

Unfolding old age
I will frankly disclose
Details of your image
As you look up close.

Bags under eyes,
Hair that is graying-
Years have gone by,
A truth I'm declaring.

Honest reflections
Boldly I will reveal,
I undress your emotions
And expose what you feel.

I cannot deceive
As I look at your eyes,
I return what you give
Because I never lie.

I once heard this story: A traveling missionary gave an African chief a mirror as a gift, the chief looked in it and asked what was the ugly demon face in the mirror. The missionary told him the mirror reflected his face. The chief got angry and smashed the mirror and refused to believe that it was him..... Good poem!
