Mirror Poem by GORDON GILHULY

Mirror

I am looking into a mirror
of flesh and bone:
I am naked.

all my once clever disguises:
the greasepaint,
the clown's nose
are all for naught.
upon a time, I was invincible
aloof, untouchable,
alone.

no mere prestidigitation
of glass and silver
could ever penetrate my myriad
hiding places.
I could not find myself
so excellent was my camouflage:
chameleon.

no one came looking for me
and now there is you:
your eyes
your truth
I see myself
I am seen
not alone
