Milarepa Poem by Jürgen Wagner

Milarepa

Rating: 5.0

He sought enlightenment everywhere
But found no answer, just despair
Milarepa one day, caught sight of an old chap
Descending the mountain step by step

Heavy sack on his shoulder, going slow but sure
He exuded something sublime and pure
'Old one, I beg you, share your wisdom within
What is enlightenment all about herein? '

The old man smiled, his eyes filled with light
Unburdened his load, stood tall and upright...
'Yes, I perceive, ' Milarepa called with glee
'Eternal gratitude! It's not difficult to see

Allow me then one question furthermore:
What comes after enlightenment? I implore'
The old one bent down and picked up his sack
He gave him a look and laughed and left
