Miep - A Woman Of Courage Poem by David Clinch

I wrote this poem to honour Miep Gies after seeing a documentary called Anne Frank Remembered on BBC television in which she was interviewed. It was intensely moving. I have also been rereading The Diary of Anne Frank with the restored extracts. I wanted to imagine what Anne Frank might have said to Miep, this ordinary, practical woman, who had such extraordinary courage and humanity. I hope that I have not been presumptuous or disrespectful to Anne's memory by calling on her voice now.

I wrote the poem in six syllable lines except the last one.

I sent it to The Anne Frank Trust receiving an email reply from Buddy Elias, Anne's cousin, who said it had been passed on to Miep. I like to think that she read it amongst her massive correspondence.
