Memory Poem by Shruti Goswami

Memory

She set out on her yawl,
Amidst the foggy sea,
When memories came flooding back,
And she could not be free.
She touched the waves as they lapped gently,
And spoke without a word,
Till the dusk it set in slowly by,
And the moon lit a thousand stars.
The waves carried to and fro,
All the pearls she had to offer,
Sometimes they just fell scarily quiet,
And watched her silent suffer.
As the cold chills ran,
And the maiden felt its bite,
Slowly took out a leather pouch,
And poured some bits in her hand.
Hazelnut, a bean of coffee,
Cocoa and blueberry,
Slowly slid in the dark waters,
In memory of some lives lost.
