Memories Of John Twomey Poem by Francis Duggan

Memories Of John Twomey

John Twomey of Ivale was in his literary prime
When I was a boy this is going back in time
The Bard of Duhallow some six decades ago
Duhallow's most popular poet then or arguably so

And whether he is living or deceased today
Is something that I do not know for to say
So many of his poems in memory stay
With words he was one who did have a way

Such beauty in his words that he did create
He was a huge literary loss to Duhallow when he did migrate
To an old school of literature he did belong
In his own right he surely was a prince of song

The pride of the old Barony in his literary prime
He was Duhallow's last laureate of rhyme
And though since he left Kilcorney many Seasons have gone
Thanks to his poems and his songs his fame is living on

Memories of John Twomey the decades does span
When I was a boy he was a popular man
Due to his poems and his songs that were often recited and sung
But it has been many years ago since I was young.
